IntelLEO was a 3-year ICT research project (STREP) in the area of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), within the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission (2009-2012). It was coordinated by the ATB Institute from Bremen, Germany.

Intelligent Learning Extended Organisation (IntelLEO) is a new paradigm representing a community that emerges from a temporal integration of two or more different business and educational communities and organisational cultures (industrial, research and educational). For example, interested individuals from an industrial enterprise may create such a community with researchers from a university department interested from the research perspective in the same area in which the enterprise does its business. The temporal integration of the two parties may come in order to collaborate on learning activities and achieve their learning goals more efficiently.

The project objectives included:

  • exploring how the responsiveness of an IntelLEO, the motivation of the learners involved, and their learning and knowledge building (LKB) activities, can be increased;
  • exploring how advanced technology can be used to exploit a synergy between services for
    • efficient management of collaborative LKB activities and access to and supply of shared content, and
    • harmonisation of individual and organisational learning objectives.

In this project, members of the GOOD OLD AI network were responsible primarily for development of an ontological framework to support the IntelLEO paradigm, development of software infrastructure to support online services for LKB activities in an IntelLEO, and, together with the INI Group, for development of a business case that demonstrates how the IntelLEO paradigm can be applied in practice.
